Musings [239 words]

In a couple weeks from now, TV, radio, and podcasts will broadcasting stories and little segements about New Year’s resolutions. They’ll be talking about how their goal is to stay in shape, eat better, put down devices, spend more time with family.

But I doubt they’ll be many stories of completed resolutions. Where will the stories be of success? In theory, there should be a myriad of these stories. I’m eager to wait and see.

Recently I watched some of last years news coverage about resoltuions. They were broad, “I’d like to talk to my kids more” one newcaster said. Another said, “I plan to cook more.”

These resolutions won’t work. It’s not concrete. Not tangible.

If my resolution for the year was to “take more photos and spend more time outside” it would have lasted a month.

People need to set very tangible, yes or no answers towards their resolutions. Did I, or did I not, complete this task today?

Want to talk to your kids more? Call them every Tuesday. Every Tuesday. It’s yes or no, you either did it or you didn’t. Want to cook more? Make the resolution “I’m going to buy vegetables every Sunday afternoon.”

Did I watch the sun rise today? The answer is either yes or no. At that point all I have to do is walk outside and bring my camera. The more time outside and photography will happen from there.
