Musings [305 words]

This morning felt like a proper sunrise. It felt like a road trip to Whitefish Point. I could feel the anticipation of the rising sun, driving along 550 the trees block the view and I wasn’t sure if the sun was going to shine or not, and I wasn’t really sure what I was going to get until I got to the end of the trail at Little Presque Park. Some of this feeling has been missing lately, but it’s giving my ideas on how to round out this year.

So what is this project? I still don’t have any answer, but next week I’ve got a speaking engagement with a group of NMU art students. I’ve never took a single art class in college, I feel they’re going to ridicule my project and tear it apart or ask some type of questions about its deep meaning that I have no answer for.

But I do know this… it’s about dedication to craft. This project is a struggle. All the time people comment, “I don’t know how you do it.” Me either frankly. When it came to mind I rolled my eyes thinking it was ridiculous.

To borrow a lesson from “The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck”, we get to choose the struggles we face in life. Struggles are a given, some are presented to us, and some we can choose. And we’re fully responsible for how we respond to them. The creative struggle, more times than not, is something I’m happy to choose.

I thought this was going to be more eloquent, it sounded good when I was sitting at Little Presque Point. Damn, those kids are going to eat me alive.

On the headphones all morning is “Good Women Do” by Little Green Cars, continuing my recent obsession with female vocals.
