Sunrise at Sunset Point? Yes, you read that correctly. The beloved and always popular sunset destination at Presque Isle in Marquette, also offers a view of sunrise throughout the summer.
The primary question here is, why does Presque Isle have a Sunset Point and not a Sunrise Point?
My hypothesis is because Marquette is clearly a sunrise town. With a shoreline sloping from Northwest to Southeast, there are countless locations to watch sunrise. For the same reason, there are only a few locations to watch the sunset over the open water. Even so, sunset here sets behind the land rather than the open water of the Lake Superior shoreline.
Of 1,868 published sunrises, 4 have been from Sunset Point, representing 0.2% of the project.
