Pebble Beach (no, not that one in California) is a local stomping ground for rock hounds. It’s one of the few beaches in the area that’s full of rocks and pebbles instead of pure sand.

An easy destination, with Picnic Rocks to the south and the Upper Harbor Breakwall to the north, it’s a great place to listen to the subtle sand of lapping waves over the pebbles.

Of 1,425 published sunrises, 38 have been from Pebble Beach, representing 2.7% of the project.

Sunrising at Pebble Beach? Here are a few pointers.

  • Nine months of the year, you’re likely to see an ore freighter coming or going.
  • After sunrise, head across the street and tour the Superior Dome (or Yooper Dome).
