Despite another drop of 2020 sunrises with very little variety in location, I’m quite satisfied with this selection and revisiting some memorable mornings, not just memorable, but ones I’m quite fond of. Another epic view from NOAA Station MCGM4 (on Valentine’s Day no less!), a stunner at Little Presque with my dear friend Angela, back to my favorite location at Harlow Creek along the Songbird Trail, and my first roll cloud at sunrise.
The Valentine’s Day sunrise, at -17ºF, marks the coldest morning of 2020 of the mornings I’ve published so far. I’d like to use this time as a reminder, the coldest mornings often produce the most stunning and beautiful sunrises. Remember that, and you’ll have the beach to yourself.
This drop marks the first release of sunrises of 2020, with these January photos now being three years old. It is hard for me to comprehend I’ve been in it this long, especially as I look back and so vividly remember taking most of these photos.
It also sheds light on just how slow moving this process is. The goal was to release one “drop” a week. The first drop was on March 10 of last year. That was 44 weeks ago, but this is only my 15th release. With twelve photos per drop, that’s an additional 348 sunrises that should be published by now.
This is going to be a slow process, the amount of work that remains, let alone still being out there every morning, is daunting. This selection of sunrises was a process that started days ago. If I knew a more efficient way, I’d certainly be doing that. But I also want it to be a thorough process, especially as a I reflect on what the legacy of this project will be. At twelve photos per batch, it will take another 77 batches to publish all the remaining sunrises through 2022. And, exhale…
