Now lets zoom in. See that crack?
I had not noticed the crack when taking this photo, and didn’t know the crack was included in a photo until looking at them later on. Though I do recall seeing the crack with my own eyes while carefully walking along the ice.
What I recall much more clearly is feeling the ice beneath my feet rumble and move when the waves crashed into it. At this point I promptly stepped further back.

One second later (literally, according to the timestamp) that beautiful curl formation of ice had cracked fully apart and fell into the water.
Back to the wide angle view here, which you can see just how big of an area broke away, probably fifteen feet across, maybe more.
It’s an incredible experience to see the shore ice take shape in realtime. It’s like being at the Aialik Glacier… on a much, much smaller scale.
(Be careful on the ice)
