Three different lenses on a single morning, that’s rare, and by standards, ambitious.

I try to stay light at sunrise. I like to carry as little as possible. Coming off of sunrise 1,000, I had rented a couple lenses for the trip. It was a lot to manage and haul around.

There is another benefit to few lenses. The paradox of choice illustrates how when we have more options available to use, we are actually less satisfied with the outcome. It’s so tempting to get the same vantage with each lens, or to capture sunrise at its most glorious moment with each focal length. The best thing to do is to limit your lenses, limit your options, take a few and enjoy the rest of the moment.

I’m satisfied with this one. And I"m satisfied with not having to carry that much gear daily.

What a doozy to choose from.

I have long wanted to publish a photo like these two, a sliver of sun between two tree trunks. Now that it’s something I look for, I think I can do better.

As much as I love photographing with a fisheye, I don’t think it’s very conducive for the sake of this project.
