Musings [195 words]

This photo really captivates me, a lot more than the countless other photos that are very similar.

Partially, it’s how still the water is. Yes, it’s a long exposure which flattens it out, but rarely is it this calm and this smooth.

But really, what really captivates me, is I look at this and wonder, “Where the hell was I standing?”

I know this spot well and have no photos from the morning that tell me the story.

Either one, I was standing in water up to my knees with my tripod (not likely in January), or, the shoreline was in rare formation with a sandbar forming to step further out into the water. Something that can’t be replicated and shows the subtle changes of the shoreline from season to season and sunrise year to sunrise year.

A rare behind the scenes look…

Now, over two years later, I recognize this tripod wasn’t around much longer after this. Replaced with a heavier than I am accustomed to lugging around everyone morning.

At this point, it has still been well less than a year of capturing a 60 second video each morning with just my iPhone.
