Musings [121 words]

For no longer than 48 hours, there was perfect ice to skate on, and then a small layer of snow covered it up. Far from light and fluffy, the snow was dense and somewhat trampled on.

But thanks for the hard work of a single woman, people continued to ice skate on the Marquette harbor for days, as my dear friend Julie shoveled a loooong path where you could skate laps. And that’s exactly what I did.

Shoveling off Lake Superior

It took the perfect person, a Yooper just like Julie to get out there with a shovel, grind it down to have sharp edges, and shovel for hours and hours in -4º wind chills.

Thank you Julie. It was the perfect Valentines Day gift.

The most perfect gradient. Any other morning this would have been my choice.

Julie hard at work.
