Happy happy sunrise!
When this project began, I never envisioned I would spend multiple sunrises ice skating on the frozen Marquette Harbor at sunrise.
Happiness is ice skating on a frozen Lake Superior at sunrise. I was out there until my toes were nearly frozen.
The crystal clear ice lasted not much longer than 48 hours, but the ice underneath this fresh dusting of snow was just as skateable, you just couldn’t quite tell when a big crack was coming.

I did terrible in science classes growing up. I mostly thought that science was limited to biology, chemistry, and maybe a couple other things.
If I knew as a kid that there were career scientists who studied lakes, ice, and frozen lakes, I likely would have taken a much different look toward science.
It’s never too late for a career change, maybe I could still become a Great Lakes ice researcher.
