Musings [244 words]

Five months after moving back to Marquette in 2014, I went on my first (I think?) date since being in town. It happened to be September 6 and we went for a walk down the beach and sat on the rocks where the sand ends at Shiras Park.

It was after sunset, and what I noticed that evening in the distance, was headlights fading in and out in the distance. Now that I’m on this same beach most mornings of the week, and when it’s dark enough, and clear enough, I look for these headlights.

I can’t quite place what it is, but there is a simple delight it always brings me.

This tiny speck of light can’t be seen in a thumbnail of the photo, and will hardly show up on a sunrise card, but for me, it’s all I need when seeking for a few pixels of delight in any given photo.

So I did the research.

Driving west on M-28, you pass Au Train and begin to climb a windy hill. At the peak when you begin the descent, there is a stretch of perfectly straight road that looks directly toward Shiras Park, and the beach I’ve spent countless mornings along.

As you descend, you round a corner, and the headlights are now out of view from any onlookers from the beach.

It’s hard to believe, that point of light in the photo of above, from headlights, is 19 miles away.
