This is exactly the morning and day I’ve needed. It’s been too long since I’ve slept in a tent. I hope my life brings me back to this place many times over.
Split Rock Lighthouse was a destination I had been wanting to get to for years. I romanticized about it. Though I never did see the sun that morning, it certainly did not disappoint. It was the fifth (of now seven) consecutive year of chasing the first sunrise of the new year along the Great Lakes. And it was a lonely experience in Duluth in 2017 that would later directly inspire this project, photographing every single one. I wasn’t thinking about any of that when I woke up at twilight with the lighthouse just a few steps from view.
