I posed a question to [REDACTED] yesterday, “What is your dream studio? What is your version of Andy Warhol’s The Factory?” And that’s where my head is at. I’m allowing my mind to get lost in the idea of what my dream studio is like, and I’m not sure I have an answer yet. It would be digital and analog, spacious but messy, though orderly. Things would be exactly where they were supposed to be. Lots of daylight, but a space for a dark closed off lounge. I’d make it a cooperative for people of different genres. People who can I throw ideas at, get feedback from, and get support when I’m hoping to create something out of my skillset. There would be a graphic designer and a web developer, a carpenter and a painter, a screen printer and an illustrator. There would be a fridge full of ice cream and an endless flow of coffee. It would have wood floors that are well used. Everything would be well used, none of this crisp and perfectly shiny new furniture. Coasters will be discouraged, use the furniture, don’t protect the furniture. There will be a steady flow of people, but someone being in the zone and in a creative space will be highly respected and not disrupted. Just outside and around the block will be a great coffee shop, some good eats, a park, a river, a lake, some green space, but also a central place of activity. Perhaps there could be a balcony with good people watching. Paint will be spilled on the floor, and it will be more beautiful because of it.
