July Overview

July is a complete month, the most complete month of 2019. I sit hear feeling incredibly fulfilled. This project has been incredible, and I’m becoming a little more critical of the photos as I try to find more variety and new locations. But this project actually has so little to do with the photos. The photos are simply the tangible evidence that I did this each morning.

Part of the project is about getting outside, working on commitments, taking on a new creative pursuit, getting back to writing and photography, and blah blah blah. Those are the things I’m setting out to do, but what’s happening is a different story.

So what is really happening? Creating an environment and lifestyle to allow for growth, experiences, presence, and openness to whatever life presents. I don’t know if this month would have happened without this project, and what’s happened this month has nothing to do with sunrises.

  • [REDACTED]ing
  • Bea (this has its own bullet list, multiple bullet lists)
  • Stone skipping on ESPN
  • Do the the whole Mountain Dew thing
  • NPR interview
  • Joe P
  • New best month at the shop
  • Experiencing profound sadness (and making it healthy)
  • High quality family memories

Each one of these bullet points is full of multiple stories and experiences and learning moments.

August, I dare you to beat this.

Looking back on July, I’m really proud of this set of photos, and a deep collection of outtakes this month, with lots of variety.

I’ve been taking notes on larger themes that are developing during this project. One is having a relationship with Lake Superior, and sleep for that matter. Another is the cliche of sunrise and sunset photography. And yet another is beginning your day with nature.

However, a new theme is forming. An unexpected theme. I don’t know what or where it will go, but it is exciting. And that theme is [REDACTED].

Songs of July

Music has played a large role in this year's journey. These are the songs that were the theme of July, the ones that were playing in my car stereo on the way to sunrise, in my headphones while editing photos, and the ones being shared with those closeest to me. Check out the entire playlist.

Fuel more Sunrises

There is plenty more content to come from Year of the Sunrise I, II, III, IV, V, and ...VI(?). Add a weekly or monthly cup of coffee to fuel more sunrise content. Or, add a quarterly tank of gas to fuel more sunrise road trips, which is just how all this began.
