Friday sunrises shall be followed by donuts. Today, one blueberry, one vanilla iced chocolate, and one glazed sour cream.
What’s the value of doing one small thing, every single day? For over twelve years I did a daily journal called Daily Fruit, writing down just a few words to remember the day, a moment, even the most trivial of things. To anyone reading, it probably doesn’t make any sense. Eventually, as one might expect after 10+ years, it became tiring and uninspired.
The idea behind Daily Fruit was always, “a few words a day keeps the psychiatrist away.” Looking back, I truly believe that. Each day there was a tony achievable task, but one that was loosely focused on being introspective. There is unspeakable value of taking a small moment, every single day, and looking inward, or outward. By seeking a moment to step back each day (or would it be stepping in?) you stay in the present.
Now, coming to the present day, I haven’t had anything like this in several years now. I began to think, did my Daily Fruit journal actually impact me that significantly? I didn’t want to start the same thing again, but for sometime I have been on a mission to find something else. If it’s every single sunrise for a year, that’s certainly a lot more demanding. But only time will tell.
