Preparing for the next day has never been a skill of mine. I actually thought, by going to bed a little earlier last night I was preparing for a good morning to follow. Awake early, I pressed snooze once. Then back to it. With no direction of where to go I chose Marquette’s South Beach. The sun was just beginning to break the horizon. I rush down, running through knee deep snow drifts, turn on my camera… and it’s dead.
Twice! That’s twice that it’s happened in the last two weeks. I gave it a full charge a week ago, I figured leaving it in my car over with overnight lows of -22º would be just fine, right?
Well, I managed to take a photo on my phone through Delilah’s viewfinder. Then I rushed back through the knee deep snow drifts, a single onlooker probably laughing at me, headed back home and plugged my battery in for no longer than sixty seconds. It was enough juice to get back and take a few dozen shots. My hope is to produce a series of photos are are taken within ten minutes of the sun breaking the horizon. That will have to slide today. And maybe I’ll drink a few less lattes this month and buy an extra camera battery.
