Musings [326 words]

A -23º windchill as I walked out the door this morning. And the snowbanks are the size of February snowbanks. Though it’s December 11.

Starting with the Thanksgiving eve storm, we’re on track to have the same month of winter that we had last year in February, all while the rest of winter was pretty mild.

What is it about the harshest weather that motivates me the most? I was the door earlier than any other day this month. I walked approximately 4.1 miles, significantly more than most sunrise mornings.

There’s something about a 72º and sunny summer day that bores me. Where’s the excitement in that? The lake is not evaporating. I can’t feel the harsh conditions on my face. There is no struggle for the reward.

My ex [REDACTED] often said I was a glutton for punishment. Maybe so.

After this morning’s walk and immediately sweating when walking in the door, I stripped myself of clothes and got into bed. Then the cold sat in. I rested and opted to nap, for quite a while. In and out of sleep. In and out of dreams. A state that I’m completely obsessed by. I don’t know where I’m going with this… Simply, maybe sleep has becmoe a hobby and a skill this year, something to indulge in. Though a full night of sleep is pretty easy when the sunrise is at 8:24.

2019: Year of the Sunrise
2020: Year of the …

I’m thinking the best way to go for next year is to answer that question. Maybe the year of becomes the life of year ofs.

2021: Year of the …
2022: Year of the …
2023: Year of the …

Where do I go next?

Year of the poem? Year of the interview? Year of the chef? Year of the foodie? Year of the introduce myself to someone new? Year of the observational writing? Year of the gym rate? Year of the run?

This one is for Joe Pera, refer to the 7:15 mark of Episode 1 of Joe Pera Talks With You.

Lots and lots of the Marquette Lighthouse this month, mostly because I didn’t bother to shovel out my car and was on foot the whole time, and well, it never disappoints.

And then I got blasted with chunks of snow from a mammoth snowblower.

This is about the first moment I got cold this morning.
